India vs UAE - Indian footballers hope for a miracle against UAE

It was here, under Bob Houghton's tenure, many a triumph was scripted including the one that saw Sunil Chhetri's hat-trick against Tajikistan in the AFC Challenge Cup final in 2008.
Chhetri has been nursing a hamstring niggle but is confident that the "injury is not that grave" to keep him away from the thick of things on Thursday evening. "Had it been eleven against eleven, it would have been a different story altogether," India's leader of the attack said ahead of the match. He was referring to the double ejections of goalkeeper Subrata Paul and left-back Debabrata Roy in the first leg against UAE.
Even captain Climax Lawrence spoke along similar lines. "Anything is possible in football," the midfielder with most experience, volleyed. They are drawing inspiration from the 2-1 win against Qatar in a friendly.
All they are trying is to put a brave front in the face of adversity. The coach has to ring in changes following the suspensions. Sandip Nandi will replace custodian Paul while Syed Rahim Nabi, who impressed with his hard-running and aerial prowess in the first leg, will start as the left back. Clifford Miranda is set to link up with Nabi down the flank while Mehtab Hussain, Climax and Steven Dias will give muscle to the midfield.
The smooth flow of traffic down the wings, as Colaco emphasized, will be the key to India's chances, if there is any. It all depends on how Clifford and Steven can out-run the UAE defenders to deliver the crosses. UAE's Slovenian coach Srecko Katanec has claimed to have a good measure of India's style of play. "They are very aggressive in the first quarter and then they slow down the pace. I have seen their matches in the Asian Cup, against Qatar and in our last game. The two guys up front are dangerous. We need to keep our concentration but we are surely not going to sit on our laurels," he said.
If the 3-0 cushion has kept the Slovenian's worries at a comfortable distance, the form of his two star midfielders, Ismail Al Hammadi and Amer Abdulrahman, has given him the confidence to emerge unscathed.
Unlike Colaco though, who just hopes that Gourmangi Singh and Raju Gaikwad can hold the defence together, Nandi can stop anything that leaks through and the duo of Jeje Lalpeklua and Chhetri shows a lot of conviction in front of goal.
The Indian coach, has told his boys to go and "express themselves the best way they can and enjoy the game." Not much else he can do, though.
