Ramadhan became Month of Beggars swarming everywhere

Mecca: Come Ramzan, beggars are seen like bacteria swarming into mosques. An obnoxious sight which not only puts us off while going to a mosque but hurts us from within as to why only mosques are becoming the hotbeds of beggary. Someone standing up in the middle of the mosque and beseeching for a penny. Someone crying at the door to help him out as his four daughters are to be married. Someone’s dear one is suffering an incurable diseases. And the list of tragedies is endless. They all can’t be fakes. Generally speaking, no one would like to go out begging if he is able to eke out a decent living. But the way this personal desperation is taking the shape of a social nuisance is disturbing. And what makes it even more painful is that nowhere these tramps are seen in a horrifying multitude as they are seen here. Do we experience the same once we enter a worshipping place other than a mosque. Temples of other religions are meant for worship only. Yes, mendicants exist everywhere, but where else do we see this atrocious fusion of religion and social evil. Churches, synagogues, gurduwaras, mandirs, gompas – the spots are revered by the followers of their respective religions for the solace they have to offer. But with us, the line between beggary and bliss is receding fast.
Poverty, no doubt is a universal phenomenon. Beggary too can’t be confined to any particular community. It’s a helpless state of body and mind when a human being sells out his honor for crumbs thrown at him. Foodless, roofless, there are millions around whose very existence makes one question the wisdom behind creating them. If God had nothing for them in store, why did he let them live. Is their very birth a scourge the rest of the world has to suffer from. Well, that question can be left to the mysteries of destiny and creation but what confronts us is a problem that no gods but humans will have to find a solution to.
If beggary can’t be fought out that easily, at least mosques must have been spared to maintain the sanctity of worship. A random mix of beggars and worshippers leaves one confused about the very identity of people as to who is who?
