NEW DELHI: India has played down Israels contention that yesterdays attack on a Israel's diplomat car was handiwork of Islamic Republic of Iran. The allegation was shot down by Union Home Secretary R K Singh who put forward that there was no evidence to suggest involvement Iran.
"We have no evidence to name any country. It's premature to name any country," he told reporters when asked whether there was Iranian hand in yesterday's terror attack which left four persons including an Israeli diplomat injured.
The Home Secretary said the investigation is going on and investigators are yet to zero in on perpetrators of the crime. He told no material has suggested involvement of any particular country.
"We don't have any idea who planted it. There is no material to show involvement of any country. The perpetrators behind the attack will be known only after the investigation is completed," he said.
Telaviv has categorically blamed Iran for the attack. Immediately after the incident the Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran and its "protégé" Hezbollah of carrying out the twin bomb attacks on Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia. Addressing lawmakers of his Likud Party, Netanyahu said, "In all these cases, the elements behind these attacks were Iran and its protégé Hezbollah."
Meanwhile, official sources in New Delhi said there was no prior intelligence input about yesterday's surprise strike and the device used was highly sophisticated. No such device was used in India before it.
Forensic experts investigating the blast found neither traces of a battery nor any circuit from the site bomb blast. However traces of aluminium were found from the spot. The experts also said that RDX was also not used in the explosion. Though the blast was strong, but strangely fuel tank of the vehicle remained safe and did not catch fire. Had fuel tank exploded damage may have be very grave.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued an advisory to all states to beef up security in Jewish establishments and for Israeli tourists visiting India.
The Centre also told the states hosting diplomatic missions of Israel, the United States and other Western countries, to beef up security there. The Home Ministry also advised the states not to allow parking near any missions and make alternative arrangements for it. (with inputs from agencies)
